Celebration of Black Excellence

On February 8, 2024, the Englewood Public Schools held an important celebration of black excellence in Englewood NJ. Englewood Makes History shared its research on Alexander Jackson, the Englewood born and raised cofounder of Black History Month and research on Englewood’s Arnold Brown, the first African American elected to the NJ state legislature. Englewood teachers and students used this research to inform two engaging presentations. Englewood Makes History also prepared a presentation honoring a number of the city’s past leaders in Englewood’s black community. EMH is grateful for the assistance provided in this presentation from Collette Thompson and Lisa Gillespie. Finally, EMH donated to the EPSD 10 t-shirts designed by EMH intern Linsey Kim and EMH founder, David Colman.
