    Adalberto Barroso-Bernier was the first Latinx doctor on staff at the Englewood Hospital. He was also the first Colombian-born resident of Englewood. He graduated from Cornell Medical School in 1931. He was a surgeon and a urologist. He lived in Englewood between 1933 to 1939. On February 4, 1933, he married Englewood native Beatrice Agnes Berge. He had a daughter and four sons, Mrs. John S. Schunrer, Major William Edward, Francis A., and Lieutenant George B. Kenneth J.

    Hermandad Hispana was a social work group dedicated to coordinating the Spanish-speaking community's social, religious, and cultural needs. The organization helped those in need with immigration information, job support, educational support, and various social services. The organization ran an information center out of St. Cecilia's.

    In 2004 an investigation was opened due to accusations that the homes of Latinx citizens and immigrants were being inspected in a manner that was intrusive and in violation of civil rights. The residents involved were the most Columbian neighborhood on West Charles and James Street.

    Perez was one of the first bilingual teachers at Lincoln Elementary School. She was with the school system for over thirty years, retiring in 1999. She married Armando Perez. She had a daughter, Laura.
