Description

Van Allen Clinton McCoy was a record producer, songwriter, and singer. In high school, he formed a group named Starlighters with his older brother and two friends recording "The Birdland" in 1956. He created a recording company in Philadelphia, Rockin' Records. He worked with numerous artists and record producers including Florence Greenberg, The Shirelles, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Chris Bartley, the Ad Libs, The Presidents, Melba Moore, David Ruffin, and so on. He co-owned Vando Studios and Maxx Records. By 1965 he co-founded Daedalus Productions and in 1976 he co-created McCoy-Kibbs Productions Inc. in Englewood. He also released many of his own songs, most famously "The Hustle" in 1975. He married Kendra Spotwood in 1966.
