This Archive Belongs to Englewood
Englewood Makes History is a living archive — a book that never stops being written. Every story you find here was researched, written, and preserved because someone cared enough to save it. If something is missing, let us know. If your family has photos, documents, or memories, upload them and they become part of the permanent record. These collections will keep growing as long as this community keeps sharing.
Our Purpose
Englewood has a profound and complex history that is often overshadowed by contemporary narratives. This archive exists to reclaim that history. By collecting photographs, documents, and oral histories directly from the people who lived them, we are building a more complete, accurate, and human-centered record of the community.
This website serves as the storytelling companion to our extensive Omeka database, providing context and narrative to the thousands of raw historical records we have preserved.

The Importance of Preservation
When community history is lost, a piece of identity goes with it. The physical landscape of Englewood has changed dramatically over the decades through urban renewal, disinvestment, and redevelopment. Many historical buildings no longer stand, making the preservation of photographs and personal memories even more critical.
This archive ensures that the stories of the entrepreneurs, the civil rights leaders, the educators, and the everyday families who built this neighborhood will remain accessible for generations to come.
Help Us Grow the Archive
Englewood Makes History is not a finished book — and it never will be. This archive grows with every story contributed, every document uploaded, and every mistake corrected. If something is missing or wrong, let us know. If your family has photos, papers, or memories, upload them here and they will become part of the permanent record. You are part of writing this history.
