The Collections

Music
Englewood was known as Soul City. Tony Bennett, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, Wilson Pickett, the Mizell brothers, and the Sugarhill Gang all called this city home. This collection covers the musicians, venues, and moments that made Englewood one of the most important music communities in America.

Comedians
In the late 1950s, the biggest names in comedy moved to Englewood — drawn by the golf club, the proximity to New York City, and each other. Buddy Hackett and many others settled here. Eddie Murphy followed decades later.

Actors
The Travolta family, Delroy Lindo, Clark Peters, Téa Leoni, and the legendary Actors' Home, where stage performers have retired since the 19th century.

Organized Crime
Bergen County was home to 44 organized crime bosses. Italian and Black mafia leadership settled here — living suburban lives while running operations in New York City. The Genovese family, Nicky Barnes, Frank Lucas, and more all have ties to Englewood.

Sports
From neighborhood courts to national stages, Englewood has produced and shaped remarkable athletes and teams. This collection gathers the players, coaches, and moments that define the city's rich sporting history.

Oral Histories
In their own voices, residents share the memories that written records leave out. This collection preserves firsthand accounts of life in Englewood — the people, places, and everyday moments that shaped the community across generations.

Family Collections
Passed down through generations, family photographs, documents, and keepsakes tell the intimate story of Englewood. This collection brings together the personal archives that families have shared to help preserve the city's history.
