  • William O. Allison.jpg

    William Outis Allison was a banker and philanthropist. He acted as vice president of the Palisades Trust and Guaranty Company of Englewood, president of the National Reserve Bank of New York, president of the publishing company that owned Oil, Pain and Drug Reporter, Druggist's Circular, and Painters Magazine, and a director of Lincoln Trust Company. He lived in Englewood Cliffs and developed the W. O. Allison Real Estate Company. He was a member of the Bergen County Historical Society, helped create the Palisades Interstate Park, and donated land that would eventually become Flat Rock Brook Nature Center upon his death. He married Caroline Longstreet Hovey in 1884. After her death, he married Caroline Amelia Shaw in 1897.  He had five children, Katharine Floyd Allison MacLean, Frances Cornelia, Allis, William Dana, and Van Kleeck.

    Millers Pond is a body of water near Liberty Road and Dwight Morrow High School. Historically there have been pollution issues with the pond.

    Charles F. Hunter was a member of the New Jersey Fish and Game Commission. He served as vice president of the organization. He was also exalted ruler of the Hackensack Elks Lodge #658.

    The Eleanor Harvey park was created at the home of Eleanor Harvey. The plan began in 2013 to change the property into a park.
  • Fred Ferber.jpg

    Fred Ferber was an Englewood resident famous for inventing the ballpoint pen. He founded Ferber Corp. and worked with the company until 1963 when he sold his shares. He then began conservation work, selling half of his 6,800 acres of timberland which was eventually developed into a state park. He was born in Austria and immigrated to Englewood in 1933. His wife was Hedwig Ferber.

    The Norsgaard Nature Center was created in February 1965. The building located at 301 Lydecker Street was used to house naturalist collections. It was named after Campbell Norsgaard.

    Norsgaard was a longtime Englewood resident and well-known nature photographer and conservationist. He fought off various efforts by developers to build roads, swimming pools, community centers, and bridle paths in Flat Rock Brook. He lived on South Woodland Street with his wife, Grace, and a daughter, Melody.

    Charles Augustus Lindbergh Sr. was a military officer and aviator. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1924. He became a second lieutenant in 1925. On March 20th and 21st, Lindbergh became the first nonstop flight from New York City to Paris on his craft Spirt of St. Louis. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Medal of Honor. In 1927 he was promoted to Colonel in the Air Corps Reserve. Herbert Hoover appointed him to the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics in 1929. When World War II started Lindbergh took a non-interventionist stance. He resigned from the Air Corps in April 1941. After the U.S. joined the war he provided support for the military as a civilian but did not join active combat. There are some unofficial reports that he did shoot down a Japanese aircraft though. In 1954 he was promoted to Brigadier General. He was also an environmental activist.

    He married Anne Morrow Lindbergh on May 27th, 1929. They lived in Englewood for a time before moving to Hopewell, New Jersey. He had three children, Charles Lindbergh Jr., John Morrow, and Anne Spencer. Charles Lindbergh Jr. was just under two years old when he was kidnapped and murdered.
  • Flat Rock Brook Nature Preserve.jpg

    Flat Rock Brook is a 150-acre nature preserve. The area includes 75 acres donated by William O. Allison in 1924. In 1973 volunteers began working on preserving the land.
  • Mackay Park.jpg

    Mackay Park is 28.60 Acres which includes the John T. Wright ice skating rink, swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer field, baseball field, softball field, and playground. Mayor Donald Mackay donated the land on which the park was built.
